Alaska’s Sen. Ted Stevens conceded defeat on Wednesday in his reelection bid to Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich, his Democratic rival. Begich and Stevens have been locked in a close race since the polls closed on November 4.

Proposition 8 Headed to California Supreme Court for Review

On Wednesday, the California Supreme Court agreed to review five lawsuits challenging the recently passed Proposition 8 which effectively banned same-sex marriage in the state of California. The court did not however allow a stay that would have put the initiative on hold and allowed gay and lesbian couples to continue to marry until the legal issues surrounding it have been resolved.

Obama Makes Tom Daschle Secretary of Health and Human Services

President-elect Barack Obama has appointed former Democratic majority leader, Tom Daschle, to the post of Secretary of Health and Human Services. In the role, Daschle who led the Democrats until Republicans won control in 2002 and was defeated for re-election in 2004, will be responsible for heading the agency responsible for implementing Barack Obama’s proposed national health care plan.

Eliot Spitzer on live television -- resigning.In an interview with People Magazine, Dupre suggests that she didn’t know who Spitzer was before seeing him on television, and that most of what she remembers about that day is the pained expression on his Silda Wall Spitzer's face.

ABC Daytime President Brian Frons threw down the gauntlet claiming that All My Children’s lesbians played by Eden Riegel and Tamara Braun are cuter than Grey’s Anatomy’s Sara Ramirez and Brooke Smith. He went on to say that Riegel's Bianca was a well drawn character on a journey, which lends to the storyline's ongoing appeal.
